Ambassador Chen Xiaodong Attended a Handover Ceremony of Donation to the South African Department of Basic Education

On May 6, 2022, the Chinese Embassy in South Africa and the South African Department of Basic Education held a handover ceremony of donation. Chinese Ambassador Chen Xiaodong and South African Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga attended the ceremony among other participants.

Ambassador Chen expressed sympathy over the loss caused by the recent flooding to the basic education system in KZN Province. He spoke highly of the timely and effective response made by Minister Motshekga and others from the South African side. Ambassador Chen said that the Chinese Embassy has actively raised donations to help the affected primary and secondary schools in KZN to cope with the disaster and carry out reconstruction. This demonstrates the Chinese side’s efforts and determination to help South Africa overcome the disaster and tide over the difficulties together. China will continue to advance bilateral cooperation in the field of basic education, enhance China-South Africa friendship and promote people-to-people exchanges.

Minister Motshekga thanked the Chinese side for its generous donation. She believed that with the help of the Chinese Embassy and other parties, the teachers and students in KZN affected areas will get over the difficulties and return to normal at an early date. Minister Motshekga spoke highly of the positive role of education cooperation in promoting cultural exchanges and friendship between the two peoples. She expressed willingness to make joint efforts with China to elevate bilateral cooperation in basic education to a new level.
