On June 27, 2024, Ambassador Wu Peng paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Nonceba Losi, South Africa’s Chief of State Protocol and Acting Director General of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO).

Ambassador Wu thanked South Africa for the great assistance provided for his assuming office. He said that China and South Africa enjoy a special bond of “camaraderie plus brotherhood”. In more recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, the relationship between the two countries has witnessed steady and further development, setting a fine example for China-Africa and South-South cooperation. In August 2023, President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to South Africa and participated in the 15th BRICS Summit. President Xi and President Cyril Ramaphosa together propelled the relations into a “golden era”. China is ready to work with South Africa’s new government to deepen political mutual trust, and expand pragmatic cooperation in areas like economy, trade and people-to-people exchanges, to harvest more “golden fruits” in the “golden era” and bring greater benefits to the two countries and peoples. Ambassador Wu believes that he will receive strong support from South Africa during his tenure.

Ambassador Losi extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Wu on behalf of DIRCO. She said that the friendship between the peoples of South Africa and China has a long history. South Africa is grateful for the valuable support provided by China in its anti-apartheid struggle and national development. South Africa take its relations with China very seriously, and is ready to work with China to deepen traditional friendship, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and work for the continuous development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. DIRCO is ready to provide all facilitation and support to Ambassador Wu in his assuming office. Ambassador Losi believes that the bilateral relations will achieve more fruitful results during Ambassador Wu’s term of office.
