Ambassador Wu Peng Attends Launch Ceremony of the Corporate Social Responsibility Report of Chinese-Funded Enterprises in South Africa

On 11 December 2024, the launch ceremony of the Corporate Social Responsibility Report of Chinese-Funded Enterprises in South Africa was held in Johannesburg. The event was hosted by the South Africa-China Economic and Trade Association (SACETA). Deputy President of South Africa Paul Mashatile and Chinese Ambassador Wu Peng attended and addressed the ceremony, which was also attended by around 150 participants, including Ambassador Zodwa Lallie, Acting Deputy Director-General at DIRCO, other representatives of the South African government, representatives of Chinese-funded enterprises in South Africa, as well as friends from the media.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile spoke highly of China-South Africa relations. He noted that Chinese-funded enterprises have fulfilled their social responsibilities in South Africa in the fields of education, healthcare, environmental protection and community development, making outstanding contributions to local economic and social development. South Africa is ready to work with China to further deepen economic and trade cooperation, and more Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest here and make more contributions to South Africa's economic growth and job creation.

Ambassador Wu Peng underscored the important role Chinese-funded enterprises have played in boosting South Africa’s development, improving people’s livelihoods and protecting the environment. They faithfully implement the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith, and take the right approach to friendship and interests, as proposed by President Xi Jinping. Ambassador Wu expressed confidence that Chinese companies in South Africa will expand cooperation in critical areas such as infrastructure, new energy and mineral processing, and ensure that the practical cooperation between the two countries will yield more “golden fruits”.

Remarks were also made by Zhang Chaoyang, Chairman of SACETA and CEO of Bank of China Limited Johannesburg Branch, as well as representatives of Chinese enterprises, think tanks and scholars.
