On May 30, 2025, the South Africa finals of the 24th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students was successfully held in Cape Town. Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Wu Peng delivered a video message.

Ambassador Wu pointed out that in September last year, President Xi Jinping and President Cyril Ramaphosa agreed to elevate the China-South Africa relationship to an all-round strategic cooperative partnership in the new era. Under the leadership of the two heads of state, China and South Africa have been deepening political mutual trust, advancing practical cooperation, and strengthening people-to-people exchanges. As an important component of people-to-people exchanges, language cooperation empowers mutual understanding between the two peoples and contributes to the enduring friendship between the two nations. Ambassador Wu encouraged the contestants to fully experience the beauty of the Chinese language and make friends in the competition, and strive to disseminate the fine cultures of China and South Africa, pass on the traditional friendship between the two countries, and help build a China-South Africa and China-Africa community with a shared future..

Ambassador Wu concluded that the Chinese Embassy in South Africa will continue to support Chinese language education in South Africa, provide more convenience and assistance to Chinese language learners and teachers, and offer practical support to help Chinese-speaking South Africans expand their career prospects.

The South Africa finals of the 24th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, organized by the “Chinese Bridge” Club in Cape Town, and co-sponsored by Confucius Institutes/Classrooms across South Africa. Tang Chang’an, deputy consul general of the Chinese Consulate-General in Cape Town, attended the event and delivered concluding remarks. After fierce competition, Thakane Masia from Rhodes University won the first prize and will represent South Africa in the global final to be held in China.
