On 3 May, the Embassy’s Minister Zheng Bingkai was invited to Cape Town to attend the school shoes handover ceremony in Western Cape as part of the “One Million School Shoes Campaign”. The campaign is organized by a South African charity organisation that aims to donate one million pairs of school shoes to underprivileged students across South Africa. As the organization’s first event in 2025, this handover ceremony is about donating shoes to five primary and secondary schools in the Western Cape Province. More than 100 participants attended the event, including local government officials, tribal chiefs, teachers and student representatives.
Minister Zheng donated shoes to the local schools on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa. In his speech, he underlined education’s role as a priority in China-South Africa cooperation. He expressed his hope that these shoes donated by the Chinese side will help improve students’ learning and living conditions, and help them grow up and become successful. He hoped that the students will become ambassadors of China-South Africa friendship to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries.
The participants and the head of the organization thanked China for supporting South Africa’s education and public welfare. They expressed their readiness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Embassy.
