2023/11/06

On the afternoon of November 6, 2023, President Xi Jinping met with South African Deputy President Paul Shipokosa Mashatile at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that as this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Africa, bilateral relationship enters a "golden era". During his fourth state visit to South Africa in August this year, President Xi Jinping and President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa agreed that China and South Africa should be strategic partners with a high degree of mutual trust, development partners making progress together, friendly partners enjoying mutual understanding, and global partners upholding justice. China stands ready to work with South Africa to continuously enrich the China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership and take bilateral relations to a new level.

Noting that China supports South Africa in exploring a modernization path suited to its own national conditions, Xi Jinping stressed that China is ready to further consolidate the foundation of political mutual trust and upgrade the level of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. China will work with South Africa and other African countries to implement China's three initiatives to support Africa's industrialization, agricultural modernization and talent development, and its eight major steps to support high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. China will also work with African countries to implement a number of high-standard, sustainable cooperation projects that will improve people's living standards, strive for a China-Africa cooperation that is more strategic and sustainable, and promote the building of a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future. The two sides should continue to cooperate closely within the BRICS mechanism, work for closer solidarity and cooperation among developing countries, and promote the development of the global governance system in a direction conducive to developing countries.

Paul Shipokosa Mashatile said President Xi Jinping's successful state visit to South Africa in August this year further consolidated the traditional friendship between South Africa and China, and injected strong impetus into the future development of bilateral relations. The fact that President Ramaphosa conferred South Africa’s highest honor on President Xi Jinping has demonstrated South African people’s high appreciation of President Xi Jinping's great contributions to South Africa-China friendship. The South African side hopes to enhance the synergy between its own development strategy and China's Belt and Road Initiative, and further deepen pragmatic cooperation with China in various fields. South Africa highly appreciates China's contributions in safeguarding the interests of developing countries and promoting world peace, and hopes to continue to strengthen cooperation with China in multilateral mechanisms including BRICS.

Wang Yi was present at the meeting.
