The Initiative of the BRICS Vaccine R&D Center on Strengthening Vaccine Cooperation and Jointly Building a Defensive Line against Pandemic

The BRICS Vaccine R&D Center - Brazil Center, Russia Center, India Center,  China Center, South Africa Center - jointly launch the initiative at the online Launching Ceremony of the BRICS Vaccine R&D Center and Workshop on Vaccine Cooperation on March 22nd, 2022.

1. We are committed to fair and equitable vaccination as a global public good and ensure vaccine accessibility and affordability in developing countries and facilitate greater market access for vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics.

2. We will enhance pragmatic cooperation on vaccine research and development, coordination of research efforts and collaborations between partner countries, overcome critical technology bottlenecks, and upgrade BRICS’ capacity for controlling and preventing infectious disease.

3. We will conduct cooperation on standards, enhance mutual recognition, and strengthen BRICS countries’ capacity for public health emergencies.

4. We will work together for epidemiological surveillance so as to provide scientific guidance for vaccine use.

5.We will enhance exchange of professionally trained personnel, hold vaccine-related events among BRICS countries, and encourage scientists to launch vaccine innovation projects in BRICS countries.

6.We will join hands in fighting against COVID-19 by sharing response experience, shouldering our responsibility, and promoting pragmatic cooperation, thus making BRICS’s contribution to global epidemic response.

7.We are committed to adhering to WHO R&D blueprint and WHO IHR 2005 guidelines.
