On June 1, 2023, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu met with South African Foreign Minister Pandor in Cape Town, South Africa.　

Ma Zhaoxu said that under the strategic leadership of the two heads of state, the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and South Africa has achieved remarkable progress. China stands ready to work with South Africa to further enhance political mutual trust, strengthen practical cooperation and uplift bilateral relations to a higher level. China will give full support to South Africa's BRICS chairmanship in strengthening BRICS solidarity, building consensus on cooperation and promoting high-quality development of the BRICS mechanism.

Pandor said that South Africa and China share a unique friendly relationship of "comradeship plus brotherhood". The two countries always understand and support each other on major issues, and have harvested fruitful results in practical cooperation across the board. South Africa will work with China and other BRICS partners to consolidate the momentum of solidarity and cooperation, enrich the content of practical cooperation, and ensure the successful outcome of the 15th BRICS Summit.
