Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu Attended BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

From June 1 to 2, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu attended the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the Friends of BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting in Cape Town, South Africa.

Ma said BRICS countries should follow the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, deepen practical cooperation, promote high-quality development, and uphold fairness and justice. They should stay confident, independent, self-reliant and self-improving, strengthen strategic communication and coordination with other developing countries, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. China fully supports the South African presidency and stands ready to work with all BRICS partners for the full success of the upcoming BRICS Summit in Johannesburg. China looks forward to welcoming new members into the BRICS family at an early date.

The BRICS foreign ministers agreed that under the new circumstances, BRICS cooperation should be strengthened to promote unity among developing countries, advance the global governance system reform, accelerate the realization of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and contribute to world peace and development.

The BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting concluded with a joint statement that expounds on BRICS countries’ position on BRICS cooperation, the international situation and global issues.
