Beijing Opera and Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Set Off a New Upsurge of the Year of China in South Africa
"Beautiful Tianjin" Cultural and Arts Festival kicked off in Durban

On June 18, "Beautiful Tianjin" Cultural and Arts Festival, one of the important cultural events of the Year of China in South Africa, kicked off in South African famous costal city Durban. Artists from Tianjin brought Beijing opera performances and Chinese intangible cultural heritage exhibition to South African audiences. Hundreds of people from various social sectors attended the opening ceremony.

Minister of the Chinese Embassy Li Song and Chinese Consul General in Durban Wang Jianzhou said in their speeches that holding country year celebrations respectively symbolizes the high level of China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership and provides an important platform for the two peoples to enhance mutual understanding, deepen friendship and promote cooperation. This festival will help South African people know more about Tianjin and China and push forward the cooperation and exchanges in various fields between Tianjin and Durban as well as China and South Africa.

The audiences watched the show of Chinese intangible cultural heritage with great interest and were deeply impressed by the unique paper cuts, New Year pictures and dough figurine etc. Traditional Chinese Beijing operas like Havoc in Heaven were also warmly applauded by the South African people.
