On Oct 31st, Ambassador Tian Xuejun attended the Press Conference for the Commencement of Air China's Beijing-Johannesburg Service. SA Minister of Tourism Derek Hanekom and Vice President of Air China Xu Chuanyu also attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Tian spoke highly of the role of Air China's new route in promoting China-South Africa and China-Africa relations. He said the opening of the service enjoys three favourable conditions, namely good timing, good location and good relations. China, South Africa and the whole Africa could seize the opportunity of building regional aviation network and turn aviation industry cooperation into a new highlight. And it will definitely promote Africa's integration, boost Africa's economy and contribute to the deepening and upgrading of China-Africa cooperation.

At around 8 am, the first flight of Air China landed on OR Tamble International Airport. The airport held a welcoming ceremony and the plane passed through the water gate.
