South Africa could try some of the Chinese job creation and poverty alleviation strategies as a model in its own efforts to stem the tide of unemployment.

This is the view of Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana whose five-day official visit to China ended on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Department of Labour.

Speaking from Beijing shortly after a meeting with his Chinese counterpart and host Zheng Silin, Minister Mdladlana said he had identified a few projects that would focus on opening more employment opportunities and reduce poverty.

He was very impressed by the competitive spirit among small and medium enterprises in Zhejiang Province and their determination to create opportunities for self employment, the Minister said.
