On 10 September 2025, the Chinese Embassy in South Africa hosted a symposium for the overseas Chinese community to commemorate the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Ambassador Wu Peng attended and delivered remarks, and over 50 representatives from the Chinese community participated.

Ambassador Wu elaborated on the significance of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and reviewed the glorious history of overseas Chinese in South Africa contributing their part in the war. He quoted General Secretary Xi Jinping’s insight that the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was a great war fought with tenacity and valor. Under the banner of the national united front against Japanese aggression established at the initiative of the Communist Party of China, the great Chinese people composed an epic of defending their homeland by sacrificing their lives. This year also marks the 80th anniversary of the restoration of Taiwan. Taiwan's return to China constitutes a vital component of the post-World War II international order. Ambassador Wu hoped that the Chinese community in South Africa will carry forward the great spirit of the War of Resistance, safeguard the fruits of victory in World War II, and convey the true story to the South African people. Ambassador Wu requested them to comply with local laws and regulations, actively contribute to local society, promote friendship between China and South Africa, and present a positive image for the overseas Chinese community. He encouraged them to unite their efforts in advancing the all-round strategic cooperative partnership between China and South Africa in the new era, and strive for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The representatives viewed a photo exhibition themed ‘Remembering History, Cherishing Peace’, and watched short videos about the 3 September military parade and oral accounts by South African-based compatriots supporting the War of Resistance. The participants engaged in a lively discussion, pledging to actively respond to General Secretary Xi Jinping's call, draw strength from the great victory to forge ahead, and strive to make greater contributions to China-South African friendship, national reunification, and building China into a great country.
