On 17 September, Ambassador Wu Peng attended the 2025 Macadamia Conference at the invitation of Macadamias South Africa (SAMAC) and delivered an address. The conference brought together about 500 participants, including Mooketsa Ramasodi, Director-General of South Africa’s Department of Agriculture Land Reform and Rural Development, Pierre Cronje, Chairperson of SAMAC, representatives of the World Macadamia Organisation, as well as industry delegates from South Africa, China, India and other countries.

In his address, Ambassador Wu Peng stated that macadamias are only a snapshot of broader China–South Africa agricultural cooperation. In recent years, agricultural cooperation between the two countries continues to expand and deepen, and China has become a major destination for South African agricultural exports. In June this year, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that through the entry into agreements on economic partnership for shared development, China would grant the zero-tariff treatment for 100 percent tariff lines to all 53 African countries having diplomatic relations with China. This is an important step taken by China to deepen cooperation with Africa and to support the continent’s industrialization and agricultural modernization. Ambassador Wu expressed hope that South Africa would seize the opportunity and join at an early date, tapping into broader Chinese market for its macadamia nuts, wine and other quality products.

Ambassador Wu visited the exhibition booths and interacted with industry representatives. Participants voiced strong confidence in China's vast market and expressed their hopes for further deepening cooperation with China.
