On 11 October, at the invitation of former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe, Ambassador Wu Peng attended the Drakensberg Inclusive Growth Forum hosted by the Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation, and delivered a speech on China as a development partner for the Global South. The forum brought together over 400 dignitaries and representatives from government, political parties, business and industry, universities, the media, think tanks, and local communities. Among the attendees were former President Motlanthe, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, South African Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Parks Tau, Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy, Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia, and many others.

In his address, Ambassador Wu Peng highlighted the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, elaborated on China's zero-tariff policy for African countries, and reviewed achievements in China-Africa and China-South Africa cooperation. He also reaffirmed China's strong support for South Africa in hosting the G20 Summit.
Ambassador Wu noted that the Global South has continued to go from strength to strength, becoming a vital force in upholding international fairness and justice and promoting world peace and development. As a natural member of the Global South and the largest developing country, China remains committed to pursuing shared development and cooperation with the Global South, together writing a new chapter in human development.

The forum took place in a warm atmosphere. Participants spoke highly of China's development achievements, and commended its important leadership role in advancing the collective progress of the Global South. They expressed expectations for further deepening cooperation between South Africa and China, as well as between Africa and China, in areas including economy, trade and beyond.
The Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation was established in 2014 by former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe. The Drakensberg Inclusive Growth Forum, the foundation's flagship event, has been held for six consecutive years.
