Chinese Embassy in South Africa Hosts Seminar on Lawful and Compliant Operations for Overseas Chinese Businesspeople, Enterprises and Chinese-Funded Companies in South Africa

On 15 October, the Chinese Embassy in South Africa hosted a seminar on lawful and compliant operations for overseas Chinese businesspeople, enterprises, and Chinese-funded companies in South Africa. Ambassador Wu Peng, Consul General You Wenze in Cape Town, Consul General Li Zhigong in Durban, and Consul General Pan Qingjiang in Johannesburg attended and delivered remarks. Also in attendance were the Embassy’s Minister Qin Zhanpeng, Minister Counsellor Liu Yu, Counsellor Xu Gai and Counsellor Liao Xiaoying, as well as 20 representatives from overseas Chinese enterprises and Chinese-funded companies in South Africa.

Ambassador Wu noted that the Embassy and Consulates General have been closely following law enforcement activities by local authorities, while actively guiding overseas Chinese businesspeople, enterprises, and Chinese-funded companies in South Africa to mitigate operational risks and safeguard their lawful rights and interests. He urged the companies to strengthen industry coordination and internal governance, and to jointly enhance compliance standards for transformation and upgrading. Ambassador Wu also encouraged them to fulfil their social responsibilities, contribute to inclusive and sustainable development, and foster a positive public image. He called on them to maintain close communication with the Embassy and Consulates General, safeguard their legitimate rights and interests in a rational and lawful way, and improve their capacity for risk prevention.

Attendees engaged in vigorous discussions and pledged to refine internal management, actively integrate into local communities, and continuously enhance their awareness of lawful and compliant business practices.
