On October 21, Ambassador Wu Peng was invited to attend the Distinguished Diplomats Dialogue hosted by the University of Cape Town (UCT), where he delivered a speech on the topic of China-Africa Leadership for the Great Harmony and Ubuntu. UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela, Director of the International Office Professor Quinton Johnson, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute Professor Feng Pengpeng, as well as faculty members and students, attended the event.

In his remarks, Ambassador Wu elaborated on the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping and introduced China’s zero-tariff policy for Africa. He stressed that China, as a natural member of the Global South and the world’s largest developing country, has always stood firmly with African countries including South Africa in jointly advocating multilateralism, and safeguarding the common interests and development space of the Global South.

Ambassador Wu noted that South Africa's Ubuntu philosophy, which advocates compassion and sharing, resonates well with the values of Confucianism--"love the people and all beings and seek harmony among all nations". This convergence of values has strengthened China–Africa and China–South Africa solidarity and cooperation, promoted mutual benefit and fostered self-reliance. It sets a great example for building a new type of international relations, injects powerful momentum into global development, and provides strong safeguard for international fairness and justice.

The event featured a warm and lively atmosphere. Ambassador Wu engaged in friendly interactions with UCT faculty and students, answering questions on topics related to China–South Africa and China–Africa relations.

Ambassador Wu also visited the UCT Confucius Institute, and held talks with teachers and students. He encouraged the Institute to pursue innovation, stay connected with the local community, and contribute to promoting Chinese culture, enhancing people-to-people exchanges, and strengthening friendship between China and South Africa.
