Ambassador Wu Peng Attends 2025 Science Forum South Africa Opening Plenary

On 25 November, Ambassador Wu Peng attended the 2025 Science Forum South Africa Opening Plenary in Pretoria, where he was invited to share China's experience in scientific and technological development and introduce China-South Africa cooperation in this field. Ambassador Wu first congratulated South Africa on successfully hosting the G20 Leaders' Summit. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, he extended congratulations on the Forum's tenth anniversary. Ambassador Wu outlined China's explorations in advancing socio-economic development through scientific and technological innovation, covering aspects such as planning, talent cultivation, innovation-driven development, and open cooperation. He also addressed questions from the audience regarding how to further deepen and expand China-South Africa cooperation in science and technology. Prior to the opening , Ambassador Wu visited the exhibition booths of Chinese participating organisations.

Science Forum South Africa is an annual flagship event organised by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation. Now in its tenth consecutive year, it has grown into an important platform for scientific and technological communities, businesses, governments and diplomatic missions in South Africa and across the wider African continent to exchange ideas on innovation and technology. The 2025 edition attracted around 6,000 registered participants from over 80 countries, and more than 80 research institutions, enterprises, government departments and diplomatic missions joined in the exhibition. Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Blade Nzimande attended the opening.
