On April 3, Ambassador Wu Peng gave a live televised interview at the Embassy to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)’s news program Agenda, elaborating on China’s position regarding the Five-Point Initiative jointly proposed by China and Pakistan for restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East region.

During the interview, Ambassador Wu outlined the background and key elements of the Initiative, noting that it reflects the rational and just position of the developing world, with its core being a ceasefire and an end to hostilities. He pointed out that the situation in the Gulf and the Middle East directly affects global energy security, supply chains and development agenda. History has proven time and again that aggression ultimately ends in failure. Countries of the Global South should work more closely to uphold reason, justice and international law.

Ambassador Wu emphasized that China and South Africa share highly aligned positions on championing peace and upholding multilateralism. China looks forward to working closely with South Africa on the matter of war and peace, and welcomes all other countries and international organizations to respond positively to the Initiative. China will continue to play a constructive role in promoting the end of hostilities and safeguarding regional and global peace and stability.
