On May 9, Ambassador Wu Peng attended and addressed the inauguration ceremony of the 11th Council and Board of Supervisors of the All-Africa Association For Peaceful Reunification of China. The event was attended by over 1,300 guests, including First Deputy Secretary-General of the African National CongressNomvulaMokonyane, National Assembly House Chairperson Cedric Frolick, as well as representatives of Chinese communities in South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique and other African countries.

In their remarks, President of the Association Zheng Xingli, former President Xu Changbin, and Chairman of the Chinese Community and Police Cooperation Centre Li Xinzhu pointed out that by“smuggling” himself into Eswatini, Lai Ching-teperformed a laughable stunt in front of the world. They stressed that they would continue to show patriotism, firmly oppose “Taiwan independence” separatist activities, and make new contributions to advancing China’s reunification.

In his speech, Ambassador Wu noted that the one-China principle has long become a basic norm governing international relations and a prevailing consensus of the international community. He expressed hope that the newly inaugurated Council and Board of Supervisors would carry forward the Association’s fine traditions, further rally patriotic forces, and unite Chinese communities in South Africa and across Africa to take concrete actions in opposing “Taiwan independence” and promoting national reunification, thereby contributing more to China-South Africa and China-Africa friendship, and China’snational rejuvenation.
