On May 16, Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Wu Peng attended and delivered remarks at the Johannesburg Final and Award Ceremony of the "Cultures of China: Water Cube Cup" Chinese Song Contest 2026. The event, held in Bruma, brought together nearly 300 guests, including Chinese Consul General in Johannesburg Pan Qingjiang, Minister Counsellor Zhao Haiyun with the Chinese Embassy, representatives of the Chinese communities, contestants and their families, as well as local friends.

In his remarks, Ambassador Wu noted that the contest was not only a showcase of talent, but also an important platform for disseminating and passing on Chinese culture. He emphasized that serving overseas Chinese communities is an important responsibility of Chinese diplomatic missions in South Africa. Ambassador Wu thanked the Huaxing Art Troupe for organizing the event, and expressed hope that the Chinese community would continue to support the event to help the younger generations better pass on Chinese culture and contribute to China–South Africa friendship.

Over the past 14 years, the contest in Johannesburg has continued to expand in both scale and influence, and become increasingly mature with high standards and great reputation. Contestants from Johannesburg have achieved outstanding results on the global stage. The Johannesburg division, organized by the Huaxing Art Troupe with backing from the Chinese Embassy and Consulate General in Johannesburg, featured 16 finalists across two age groups, teenagers and young adults. The performances were impressive and the atmosphere was lively.

During the competition, winners from previous years were invited back to the stage to present a recitation of “I Am Proud to Be Chinese”, as well as song and guzheng performances. The event concluded successfully amid warm applause and joyful songs.
