In order to effectively curb cross-border transmission of COVID-19 and ensure smooth and orderly people-to-people exchanges between South Africa and China, the Chinese embassy in South Africa has updated the Requirements on Issuing Green Health Declaration Codes (HDC) as follows:
I. All passengers going to China by flight should take "double nucleic acid" tests, conducted separately within 48 hours and 24 hours before boarding. The interval between two nucleic acid samples taken shall be more than 24 hours, and the tests shall be done at two different labs accredited by the local health authorities in South Africa(e.g, Pathcare, Ampath, Lancet and Akili Labs).
II. After receiving the testing reports, passengers are required to log in the application program at https://hrhk.cs.mfa.gov.cn/H5/ or scan the QR code below, and upload the following documents to apply for the HDC without delay.
(i) Passport info page, Chinese visa or residence permit
(ii) Testing reports
(iii) Itinerary

IV. Application by those with close contact and suspected symptoms of COVID-19
Those who have close contact or suspected symptoms, shall conduct a self health monitoring for 5 days. If there is no abnormality during the period, one can step into the normal procedure and apply for the HDC.
V. Important Reminders
(i) Transiting passengers from a third country or region must have been tested and enter South Africa with the HDCs issued by the Chinese Embassy or Consulates General there. While in South Africa, they should be tested and apply for the HDCs as stated in article I.
(ii) Passengers intending to travel to China via a third country or region, are advised to confirm the testing and HDC policies with the relevant Chinese Embassies or Consulates General there in advance. It is a general practice that double nucleic acid tests and HDCs in both departure and transit countries are requested.
