On 23 January, Minister Zhou Maoyi of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa visited several Chinese organizations and institutions in Johannesburg, including the Chinese Association (Gauteng), Transvaal Chinese United Club, and the Hong Ning Chinese Aged Home, as well as a number of Chinese-owned shops. Minister Zhou conveyed the CPC and the Chinese government’s care for overseas Chinese compatriots and extended festive greetings.

Minister Zhou learned in detail about the operations of these organizations and the living and working realities of the Chinese community. He presented gift packages to community members and held discussions with the representatives. He emphasized that while the Chinese community is rooted in South Africa, it remains deeply connected to China. Through their diligent work, community members actively foster people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
Minister Zhou expressed hope that they would continue to uphold the fine traditions of patriotism and solidarity, strengthen safety awareness, follow lawful and compliant business practices, and actively integrate into and contribute to local communities. In doing so, they help advance China-South Africa relations and cooperation across all fields, and contribute to the cause of national reunification, rejuvenation, and the building of a strong China. The Chinese Embassy and Consulates in South Africa will continue to practise “diplomacy for the people”, provide better services for the Chinese community, and safeguard their safety and legitimate rights and interests.

Members of the Chinese community expressed gratitude for the government’s care. They pledged to maintain safety awareness, comply with local laws and regulations, and foster a harmonious environment. They expressed firm support for the cause of national reunification and development, and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing friendship and cooperation between China and South Africa.
