On March 31, Minister Zhou Maoyi of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa attended and addressed the launch ceremony of the Publicity Week on Lawful and Compliant Operations for Chinese businesses. The event was attended by over 100 guests, including Consul-General Pan Qingjiang in Johannesburg, Counsellor Liao Xiaoying of the Embassy, Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Jomo Sibiya, as well as representatives of the Chinese business community.

In his address, Minister Zhou introduced the current state of China–South Africa relations and economic and trade cooperation. He encouraged Chinese businesses to uphold integrity while pursuing business success, strengthen lawful, compliant and safe operations, and actively integrate into and give back to local communities, to foster a positive image.

Deputy Minister Sibiya commended the positive contributions made by Chinese businesses to South Africa’s economic and social development, and expressed readiness to enhance communication and provide guidance on employment practices.
The event was held at China Mall in Johannesburg. During the event, officials from the Department of Employment and Labour also briefed the participants on relevant laws and policies. Initiated and organized by the Chinese community, the Publicity Week will continue until April 3 in major Chinese malls and Chinatown.
