On May 14 and 16, Minister Qin Zhanpeng met separately in Mbombela with Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu and SAPS Acting Provincial Commissioner Zeph Mkhwanazi.

Minister Qin stated that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China–South Africa relations have continued to grow. China’s zero-tariff policy for 53 African countries with diplomatic relations with China creates new opportunities for China–South Africa economic and trade cooperation. The Chinese Embassy stands ready to strengthen exchanges and communication with Mpumalanga Province to ensure that the policy benefits the South African public, including the people of Mpumalanga.
Minister Qin thanked the South African police for their efforts in protecting the safety of Chinese citizens, and noted that Chinese citizens and enterprises have actively contributed to Mpumalanga’s economic development and job creation. He expressed hope that the South African side would continue to work to protect the safety and lawful rights and interests of Chinese citizens, and provide a safe and favorable business environment for Chinese companies investing and operating in Mpumalanga.

The South African side briefed Minister Qin on the economic and social development as well as the public security situation in Mpumalanga Province. They emphasized that they take China’s concerns seriously and are willing to strengthen cooperation with China in areas including talent development, and that they welcome more Chinese enterprises to invest in the province.
